Depending on where you reside, Opening Day has come and gone……. Here in Virginia ; October 3rd will be my magic moment this year. Although I was fortunate enough to harvest a doe in the early part of September during the early antler-less season, the cooler temps, rustic colors of leaves, and possibility of shooting a mature buck brings much more anticipation and excitement.
Knowing I will be in a stand in less than 24-hours, short timer’s disease has already kicked in at work and each evening has been packed with getting prepared for that early alarm going off. It’s funny how the alarm doesn’t bother me on my day off. Knowing I will be out in the woods listening and looking for the sights that tend to get our heart pumping to a different beat reminds me of the sleepless nights the eve before Christmas when I was a kid.
For those of you who have already enjoyed this moment and the others who may be waiting, I wish each and every one of you a safe and satisfying season.
